BFET - Basic Food Employment & Training Program


What is the BFET program?

The purpose of BTC’s BFET (Basic Food Employment and Training) program is to help current students access jobs through education.

BFET students are encouraged to join the BFET website! The site is designed to share BTC –related information as well as information and resources related to student success. The site also serves as an aid in maintaining on-going partnership and communication between students and BFET staff.
To qualify
  • Must be receiving or eligible to receive Basic Food Benefits (food stamps) through the federal program
  • Food benefits are based on household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty rate—to find out if you qualify for Basic Food Benefits or other services available through Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), use the eligibility calculator Link
  • Must NOT be receiving TANF, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families.
  • Priority given to students who are co-enrolled in Worker Retraining, Opportunity Grant, and/or have other sources of non-federal financial aid (State Need Grant, scholarships)
  • Priority also given to students who are required to work with the BFET program in order to receive the DSHS child care subsidy or to be in college.
BFET-eligible students may receive
  • Child care subsidy through Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS)
  • Ability to continue to receive Basic Food Benefits while enrolled in college
  • Financial assistance with college-related expenses
Application process
  • Complete the BFET application
  • Schedule an appointment with Workforce Funding staff or come during drop-in hours
  • Students must provide updated eligibility information and request assistance each quarter—funding may only be available during the first quarter at BTC while you explore other funding sources
