What is the Opportunity Grant?
The Opportunity Grant is designed to help low income students get prepared and enter programs at Bellingham Technical College that will result in high demand, high wage occupations.
We are not accepting new applications at this time
To qualify
- 18 years old or older
- Earned less than an Associate’s Degree, priority given to students with fewer than 15 college credits
- Washington state resident minimum of one year
- COMPLETION of the FAFSA that shows financial need
- Highly motivated and committed to achieve career and educational goals
- Family income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level - access an eligibility calculator
to determine if you are eligible for Basic Food Benefits (which uses the same income eligibility as Opportunity Grant).
- Interest in pursuing one of the following high demand career paths:
o Welding
o Building Construction
o Engineering or Surveying and Mapping
o Electrician, Electro Mechanical Technology, HVAC, or Machining
o Instrumentation, Electronics or Process Technology
o Automotive Technology or Diesel Mechanics
o Surgery Technology, Radiology Technology, LPN, Dental Hygiene or Dental Assistant
Opportunity Grant students may receive
- Tuition and fees for 45 college level credits
- $1,000 for required books and tools
- Limited funding for child care, transportation, and emergencies
