Step-UP/ I-BEST Programs

What are Step-UP/ I-BEST?
In the Step-Up I-BEST programs, you will take career preparation classes and basic skills classes. The professional/technical instructor and the basic skills instructor coordinate their instruction so that everything relates to your career goals. If you complete the I-BEST course and meet the other entry requirements, you will be able to continue in the professional/technical program the next quarter.

Who is it for?
Students headed for careers who
  • are highly motivated and committed to achieve career and educational goals
  • have not been able to enter the program by meeting the Accuplacer reading and/or math requirements
    or
  • read English as a Second Language at Level 5 Reading or higher
    or
  • are working on their GED

    What Step-UP/IBEST Programs are currently offered?
  • Allied Health (Nursing, Surgery Tech, Dental Assisting)
  • Welding
  • Appliance Repair
  • Child Development
  • Business & Computer Information Systems
  • Auto/Diesel Technology
  • Basic Industrial Technology

    What is the application process?
    All complete applications will be forwarded to the I-BEST committee for evaluation. All steps of the application process must be completed before the student can be enrolled or registered for classes. Please do the following:
    1. Attend an information session or meet with Sarah Fowler, College Services Rm 101
    2. Complete an I-BEST application
    3. Submit a scholarship application and proof of income (if necessary)
    4. Ask someone to fill out a Reference Form for you
    5. Complete the Accuplacer test (college placement test). Call 752-8345 to sign up.
    6. Complete the Basic Skills appraisal (Contact Jean at 752-8341 to schedule)
    7. Return completed applications to Sarah Fowler, College Services Rm 101
