Program Description
The mission of Basic Academic Skills is to prepare students for lifelong success by facilitating basic academic learning and workplace behavior and attitudes.

The Basic Academic Skills Program offers:
. Adult Basic Education (ABE) including reading, writing, and math
. GED preparation
. Study Skills/Accuplacer preparation
. English as a Second Language (ESL)
. Basic computer skills
. Step-UP/I-BEST programs

Adults who seek Basic Academic Skills classes should contact the Learning Center, Building E, Room 2/3 (360 752-8341) for information. The Learning Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Program Requirements
Basic Academic Skills Program is open adults who meet these requirements for adult basic education.
  • Completion of basic academic skills assessment (CASAS)
  • Participation in orientation sessions. See Learning Center Orientation Schedule and ESL Orientation Schedule.
  • Commitment to regular attendance
  • Ability to participate positively in an adult learning environment
  • 16 years or older and not enrolled in a K-12 school
  • 16-18 year olds must submit “Request for Approval to Test GED Certificate” signed by high school representative


    Program Schedule
    Most classes are offered in the morning (8-11 am), afternoon (12-3 pm) , and evening (6-9 pm) hours. See Quarterly Schedule. Regular attendance is required.

    Tuition & Fees
    There is a quarterly tuition charge of $25.00 for daytime ABE, GED, or ESL classes. There is no charge for evening classes. Tuition assistance or waivers are available for anyone who is unable to pay.

    The GED testing fee is $75. Scholarships are available.
