Welcome to Bellingham Technical College. We are so pleased your student has chosen Bellingham Technical College for their educational training. As a parent of a Running Start student there are many ways you can support your student throughout their training as well as items for you and your student to consider as your family pursues one of our certificate or degree programs. Please familiarize yourself with the considerations below.

Selecting a Program
. To be successful in college a student must be academically ready to be a self starter with a level of maturity for making educational choices.
. Careful consideration should be made about the choice of program and how this fits to your student's personal strengths and interest.

Funding
. Every quarter your student needs to submit a Running Start Referral form to Bellingham Technical College, signed by their HS counselor for tuition waiver
. Although the tuition is paid for from the school district, there are additional expenses such as fees, transportation, books, and tools that are the student's/family responsibility

Social Integration
. There are social concerns while attending college that are different from attending high school. Your student will interact with other students from all ages and from many different backgrounds.
. Running Start has powerful learning experiences that increase the student's independence from home to work.

Vacation

Winter Break: December 17-January 1
Spring Break: March 28-April 4
Summer Break (does not include summer quarter classes): July 1-September15
. BTC Academic Year 2008-2009
Winter Break: December 15-January 2
Spring Break: March 30-April 3
Summer Break: (does not include summer quarter classes): June 30-September 14

Graduation
. The high school is the final authority on graduation requirements
. At this time students must still attend their HS to complete their senior Civics requirement
