If you are seeking VA educational benefits, there are a few things you’ll need to do:

  1. Apply for benefits through the VA,
  2. Set up an appointment at BTC with Malcolm Oliver to properly submit your paperwork to the school, and
  3. If you are interested in additional financial support you may also wish to visit the Financial Aid and Workforce offices to inquire about available options for veterans

BTC awards you college credit for your military training. You may be eligible for academic credits based on your specialized military course work. You will need to contact the Admissions office and provide the following:

  1. A copy of your DD-214, and
  2. A copy of your military transcripts and certificates

Advising
At BTC we have a supportive and knowledgeable advising staff that can help you with academic and career planning. Laura Nelson is our specialized Veterans Advisor.

Pathfinders
Pathfinders Peer Mentoring is a student mentorship program specifically focusing on veteran student support. Pathfinders matches new veteran students with current veteran student leaders so as to build peer support for academic achievement and foster a strong campus community of veterans. For more information about Pathfinders, please contact the Pathfinders Coordinator, April Hinkle-Johnson.

Club
The BTC Veterans Club is a chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA), consists of a board of elected student executives and staff advisors, and convenes weekly for lunchtime meetings open to the general campus community. The purpose of this club is to foster peer support within the veteran community on campus, give veterans a place to meet one another, and act as a platform for discussing and advocating for veteran’s academic needs. This club is recognized nationally by the SVA as well as internally by the Associated Students of Bellingham Technical College (ASBTC).
