Placement Testing

  • The Accuplacer test is not a pass or fail test; it simply measures your current skill level. Your scores will help you choose the right classes, make a plan, and obtain any needed support services, as well as satisfy entrance requirements for many BTC programs.
  • Specific programs have entrance requirements in reading and mathematics, and certain courses have higher score requirements as well. There are four computerized Accuplacer tests (Reading, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic and Algebra), as well as BTC’s in-house College Level Math test (a paper/pencil test), that may be needed for program or course requirements. The Accuplacer is available in paper/pencil format upon request. Please explore BTC’s Degrees and Classes page for information on your program requirements, or contact the Admissions and Student Resource Center at, by calling 360-752-8345 or in College Services Building 106.
  • No Appointment is needed to take the Accuplacer:
    • Before testing, pay the $21 fee to the BTC Cashier, Campus Store, or Campus Store Online, and bring your receipt and photo ID with you to test.
    • Plan to spend about 2 hours testing, with an additional 2 hours to take the College Level Math test if needed.
    • Your placement test will be in Building H, Room 4 during the times scheduled below.

Weekly Accuplacer Assessment Test Schedule:

  • Mondays 9:00 am to 8:00 pm (arrive by 6:00 pm)
  • Tuesdays through Fridays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (arrive by 3:00 pm)

Important Information

As of January 2, 2014, a new version of the GED is in place and offered exclusively on the computer. Pre-2014 test scores will not carry over to the new version, so students that did not successfully complete all five exams with a 450 average or higher by December 13, 2013, will need to re-test all sections.

For GED testing:
Go to GED Registration and Appointments to register and make your test appointments. Each of the four tests costs $30, payable online with a debit/credit card. A valid, government-issue photo ID is required at time of testing. GED tests are generally available weekday mornings and afternoons; the actual schedule is available through GED Registration and Appointments once registration has been completed.

Test scoring:
Passing scores for an individual test section must be 410 or above, out of a possible 800. This must be combined with an average over all five tests of 450 in order to pass the GED. There are two retests available each year for each test section. The retest fee is $30 and must be paid before each retest.

After Completing:
