Radiologic Technology
Description of Instructional Methods
Select Text Size A A A

Students in the radiologic technology program will receive academic and clinical education through a variety of learning technologies. Coursework will be delivered using radiology lab activities, computer lab activities, video conferencing, the Internet and the traditional classroom. Clinical education will be provided in a variety of settings and prepare the student for work as an entry-level radiologic technologist. The information below describes a portion of the instructional methods:

Clinical education provides the students with hands on application of theory and demonstration of skills from all instructional methods. Students will complete a portion of the program specific competencies in the clinical setting

Lab instruction includes demonstration of skills and experiments related to content of courses. Students will complete a portion of the program specific competencies in the lab setting

Interactive television courses (ITV) or video conferences
are live, on-campus courses that are telecasted from specially-equipped classrooms to outlying campuses where students in special similar classrooms are able to participate in real time

Web Based Instruction is offered via a web browser and an e-mail account. Interaction with the instructor is through the internet. Students need to have internet services available or plan to use the student support services at the consortium colleges. Listed below are the requirements and skills necessary for web-based instruction.

Minimum Equipment and Skills for Web Based Instruction

To access the Blackboard classroom you must have the following minimum equipment.

Client Platforms (computer operating systems):
  • Windows 98/ME/XP/NT/2000/Vista
  • Mac OS 8.6 and 9.1 (OS X to be supported for 3.7 with full release of IE)
  • Linux workstations

    Supported Browsers
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher
  • Netscape Navigator 4.7x (Netscape Navigator 4.0 and 6.0 are not supported

    In General
You will encounter technical barriers to learning if you do not have the following minimum equipment and skills:
  • Your computer operating system and your Web browser must be on the list (above) of those supported by Blackboard
  • Your modem must have 28.8 or faster connection speed
  • You must be proficient in navigating the World Wide Web (the Web) and able to download and install plug-ins
  • You must have your own E-mail account with the ability to send and receive attachments. For Macs, Eudora is recommended as an E-mail application
  • An online course requires accessing the web on a regular basis. You need a reliable ISP that seldom responds to your call with a busy signal
  • If you are accessing these classes from behind a firewall (from your office), you must contact the instructor and find out what services are going to be used in the class, then contact your ISP or Network administrator, and find out if those services will work through the firewall
  • Microsoft Word is the supported Word Processor at Bellingham Technical College. You must have the ability to read and write MS Word files
  • The following software is suggested but is not required for many classes:
    Macromedia Shockwave browser Plug-In (http://www.macromedia.com )
RealPlayer with FLASH support ( http://www.real.com)
    Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0+ ( http://www.adobe.com )

    America Online (AOL) Users
America Online users cannot access Blackboard properly using the browser supplied with AOL. To access Blackboard, AOL users must download a standard (or stand-alone) version of either Netscape Navigator (Communicator) or Internet Explorer. (AOL sometimes refers to browsers other than their own as "external browsers.")
