This winter quarter the BTC PTEC program launched its first on-line PTEC course - a course in Quality Control (PTEC 207) offered through the Center for the Advancement of Process Technology (CAPT).
The course facilitator is Mr. John Turnbaugh, Process Development Manager at BP Cherry Point Refinery. Mr. Turnbaugh has many years of refinery experience and is teaching the course as an adjunct faculty member.
We anticipate offering two on-line courses this spring - a CAPT course on Safety, Health and Environment (PTEC 103) and the introductory course to Process Technology (PTEC 101). The second course is directed toward high school juniors and seniors who have an interest in process technology careers. If you are interested in either of these courses, please contact Tom Carleson (tcarleso@btc.ctc.edu).
Special topics short courses
In an effort to respond to the changing educational needs for our students and local industries, we have begun offering special topics classes (PTEC 120/220). These 44 class hour classes or short workshops are designed to prepare our students for certification in various fields as well as to provide a more in depth discussion of specific chemical processing industries.
Currently we are offering PTEC 220 Special Topics in Wastewater Treatment. This class is designed to provide our students with the knowledge necessary to pass the Washington Operator-In-Training certification exam. The class sessions are: government regulations concerning municipal wastewater treatment; the operator certification process; mathematics as applied to wastewater treatment; fluid mechanics as applied to wastewater collection and treatment; chemical, biological and physical analysis and characteristics of wastewater; wastewater sources and collection; primary treatment; secondary treatment (three class period); sludge handling - digestion and disposal; process control of wastewater treatment plant systems; and operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant systems (two class periods).
We will also offer special topics classes on job search techniques and preparation in the spring quarter and are planning future special topics classes on biodiesel production and food processing.
This program typically starts in Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters
