Potential positions also include human resources generalist, employment and placement manager, recruiter, affirmative action/EEO coordinator, employer relations representative, employment interviewer, human resources coordinator, job analyst, occupational analyst, compensation manager, employee benefits manager, and training and development manager.
Employment Outlook Employment opportunities for human resource specialists and managers is likely to grow about as fast as average through 2012, due to an abundant supply of qualified college graduates and experienced workers despite large numbers of annual job openings that will stem from the need to replace workers who transfer to other jobs, retire, or stop working for other reasons coupled with projected average employment growth.
Typical Tasks Specific tasks typically required of a human resource specialist or manager include:
Developing and coordinating personnel programs and policies;
Conducting programs of recruitment, selection, placement, training, promotion, welfare, safety, compensation, or separation of employees;
Recruiting and interviewing potential, exempt and non exempt employees and advising on hiring decisions in accordance with established policies and requirements;
Assisting the employer in effectively using employees’ skills, providing training opportunities to enhance those skills, and boosting employees’ satisfaction with their jobs and working conditions;
Checking references, conducting wage surveys and employee orientation;
Carrying out policies related to all phases of Human Resource activities;
Preparing reports and recommending procedures to improve organizational performance;
Contacting outside sources of employee services and health and welfare plans;
Advising supervisors and managers regarding employee relations issues;
Reviewing job requisitions and identifying applicants via computerized or manual system;
Informing applicants of job duties, working conditions, pay, benefits, and promotional opportunities.
