Bellingham Technical College joined the Transatlantic Technology and Training Alliance (TA3) in 2002. TA3 is a membership consortium of leading community and technical colleges in the US, Europe and South Africa. TA3 promotes two-year college efforts to support their regional economies, and promotes the value and importance of a global perspective on community and technical college missions. This consortium helps facilitate activities related to "the exchange of experience and good practice, joint development activities and exchanges of students and college staff."

International exchanges are exceptional experiences for professional-technical students, faculty and staff, Exchanges for college students and faculty have been routine in the United States for many years, but few have focused on professional technical education and even fewer on international worksites. Obtaining global competence is important in our current workforce. It is very common for Americans to work for an international company, for their company to do business globally either selling to or receiving products manufactured outside the U.S., and/or for co-workers or supervisors to be from other countries. Being able to work within a global community and economy is an important skill for all of our future. There was a great benefit in the exchange of teaching and technical information among faculty.

The positive experiences of these exchanges have solidified the College's commitment to maintaining these partnerships and providing activities and opportunities for student learning, growth, and leadership through international professional-technical exchanges.
